An Amazing Kiln-fired Glass studio in Neumann Leathers

Warm Glass at Project Studios

Project Studios has a kiln-fired glass studio to compliment the Clay Studio on the ground floor of our 66 Willow Ave. studio in Hoboken. The shop is equipped for executing kiln-cast objects, as well as work in fused and slumped glass. The shop has six computer-controlled kilns, and a compliment of Bullseye-compatible glass sheet, frit, rod, and powders, as well as an extensive set of molds for shaping functional and decorative forms. Materials will be available for purchase, or members may bring in their own Bullseye-compatible glass.

The studio is part of our creative ecosystem at Neumann Leathers in Hoboken.

Kiln-fired glass, also known as warm glass, uses a different process than glass blowing, which is known as hot glass. Project Studios does not have a hot glass shop. We do, however have a wide array of cold-working tools and equipment similar to what might be found in the finishing room of a hot glass studio.

The centerpiece of this studio is an Olympic GF17E kiln with 65 x 30 x 15 in. internal dimensions. This kiln is capable of firing very large glass objects or large quantities of smaller works. Our extra-tall Skutt 231/240 kiln (shared with the Clay Studio) can be used for pot-melt casting in investment molds. The studio also has two small test kilns, as well as a pair of AIM 3509 kilns on custom-welded stands, fitted with Orton Sentry controllers. These extra-wide kilns can be operated independently or as a stacked unit. We have listed our kilns on the Bullseye Kilnspace site, so connect with us there or send us a message if you want to fuse glass.

Olympic Glass Kiln

Our kilns can be loaded in a multitude of configurations using the very extensive array of kiln furniture available in the shop.

The studio is stocked with Bullseye sheet glass. Bullseye frit, confetti, and stringers are also well-stocked. The selection of hand tools is incredible. We also have small power tools for cutting and grinding glass. Larger tools such as our 20-gallon constant temperature wax melter and CRL wet sander are available for more ambitious projects. The studio has literally hundreds of commercial slumping molds for making functional or decorative pieces. Custom bisque molds can be created in our Clay Studio. We also have a wide selection of stainless steel rings and forms.

The Warm Glass Shop membership price is TBD at this time. Current members of the Clay Studio will also be able to add a Warm Glass Shop membership at a package rate.
