Superior Studios for Artists and Creatives

Project Studios occupies 30,000 sq. ft. of space housed within the historic R. Neumann and Co. leather factory complex in Hoboken, New Jersey. The building is a short ride from Manhattan, Jersey City, and Newark via the PATH. It is also close to the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail or NJ Transit via the Lackawanna Terminal in Hoboken. The building also has a parking lot for tenants and visitors. This artistic hub provides a unique environment for creative activity.

Project Studios occupies three full floors of the main building at Neumann Leathers, with additional spaces in the buildings at 66 Willow Ave. and 321 Newark Street. We also have a suite of private art studios on the forth floor of Building E, a more modern structure with concrete construction and large windows.

We offer private and semi-private studios for artists and other creatives, music rehearsal rooms, and shared shops. Studios for ceramics, photography, printmaking, warm glass, and metal working are all available. Project Studios also offers a membership option for our Clay Studio and our at-large studio program that we call, The New Collective. Members and tenants may access the studios 24 hours.

Project Studios has five shared music practice studios on the second and third floors of Neumann Leathers, where bands and individual musicians hone their skills.

Neumann H2 Studio Suite

Our studio suite on the second floor of Building H at Neumann Leathers is a blend of semi-private studios for visual artists, as well as two music rehearsal rooms and a 900 sq. ft. dance studio. It also features a 400 sq. ft. multi-purpose studio for use by The New Collective members and our residency program (when applicable). The space features worktables, tool access, storage, easels, and other amenities. The second floor suite also houses our spray room and wood shop.

Neumann H3 Studio Suite

Our third-floor area boasts a mini Print Lab used for digital, intaglio, and monotype processes. The printmaking zone is surrounded by numerous private studios for visual artists, as well as four music rehearsal studios. Many of these studios feature the original hardwood floors from the R. Neumann and Company leather factory. All building H and E suites have both passenger and freight elevators. Elevator access is 24 hours.

Neumann H4 Studios

This floor is home to a grouping of larger private studios as well as a suite of six semi-private units. These studios are all designated for use by visual artists, designers, and musicians. Many of the larger studios are occupied by creative companies, and serve as an incubator for these endeavors. One of the 1200 sq. ft. private units houses our recording studio.

Our fourth-floor semi-private studios are built like a Bauhaus work space. A 2000 sq. ft. section of factory warehouse is divided by 10 ft. high walls that allow light, air, and a spirit of collaboration into each creative’s area. These studios are as small as 150 sq. ft. but can be as large as 500 sq. ft..

Neumann E4 Studio Suite

Project Studios also has a suite of private art studios on the forth floor of Building E, a more modern structure with concrete construction and large windows. This studio area also houses our shared photo studio as well as a small kitchenette and storage. A new gallery wall critique area is being added in winter of 2023.

Neumann O5 Studio Suite

Our suite of large private studios located on the 5th floor of Building O, located at 321 Newark Street features the quiet privacy of a top-floor space, rooftop access, concrete construction, dedicated loading dock, and freight elevator.

Neumann A3

On the Willow Ave. side of Neumann Leathers, Project Studios occupies the first and third floors of Building A, which is one of the oldest structures in the former factory complex. Our third floor houses a suite of private studios for visual artists with close proximity to a large freight elevator.

Neumann 66 Willow Ground Floor

Since 2011, PROTO Gallery has been located at Neumann Leathers. Although the gallery still exists virtually, its Hoboken presence has been minimized to allow our shared ceramics and sculpture studio to expand. This revised space allocates all 3600 sq. ft. of the ground floor of Building A for ceramics, welding, and glass.

Lackawanna 5th Floor

Project Studios is currently expanding to a new location in Jersey City, which will house new studios for creatives as well as a new space for our metal fabrication and glass shops. It is our hope to soft-launch this new space in Winter of 2023.
