The Emo Interview
May 16th, 2009Nick from Project Studios interviewed me for the new site so we would have something for y’all to read. He developed the site for me, and he will continue to be adding new features as we go.
PS: Where does the name Emo come from? You don’t look like a second-wave Emo rocker kid.
KL: Well, it is short for emotional ’cause everything that I do is very important to me. I want that to come through when I am playing. I take pride in everything I do and want you to know that when you listen to my mixes.
PS: What style are you right now, musically?
KL: Well it is a cross between full blown gangster and gentleman. That means when you listen you will either want to kick some ass or hug your lady, but it always makes you want to bob your head and dance.
PS: What are the top five on your iPod playlist right now?
KL: Old school hip-hop, Funk for your mind, Sexy soul mix, Alternative
PS: Who do you feel is the best in the Chicago DJ scene right now?
KL: Tuesday night at Sub T 606 entertainment is hot shit.
PS: Favorite restaurant?
KL: Fogo De Chao
PS: Favorite spot for lunch?
KL: A little chicken spot called Feed. 2803 W Chicago Ave.
PS: Is there any dumb junk that you buy all the time?
KL: Records, but that ain’t dumb. I am the type to buy what I need and only sometimes splurge.
PS: Are you into clothes? What shoes, hat, etc. are you rockin’?
KL: Evisu jeans, Enyce jackets, Chicago Blackhawks and White Sox hats! I will wear anything that is Fresh!
PS: You started driving a cab in Chicago recently. Can you describe how a shift goes down?
KL: Business during the day drunks at night! Best job ever, just get to be myself and bum my mix’s for to selection of people in Chicago.
PS: In which neighborhoods in Chicago have you lived? Which neighborhoods were your favorite and least favorite?
KL: I am all about the 60622. I have been living in that zip for ten-plus years now. I don’t like going north of north but I do all the time, and Rogers Park… not a fan.
PS: Your charity of choice is the MS Society. Can you describe what you do with that organization?
KL: I try to spread the word about fighting MS. The young ladies that are in charge of the ride I do each year have stole my heart. They work real hard to make sure the over two-thousand bikers have a great weekend. I would love one day to be a bigger player in this fight.
PS: You have worked as a bike messenger in the city. How is that job different than normal jobs?
KL: Well I tell you if you are not on top of your game, meaning your ride style, this city will eat your ass. I know because I am driving a cab also, but some of these guys will run you over for a fat person trying to get to the train station to get back to suburbia. Work hard and play harder , I guess. What’s better than a job where you get to ride a bike all day and look at people staring wishing they were you, but you get used to it.
PS: Anything else?
KL: You know, I love my family and just hope that one day we will all rise up and run this planet the way it needs to be done. I wake up everyday with a smile and got to say I would not change much about my life. Thanks for checking this out and hope to keep everyone informed about what’s going on in the life of Emo!
Peace and Love
